New Scotland parliament to take responsibility for agriculture
Scotland voted for its own parliament. It will take over the Scottish
Offices powers relating to agriculture, fisheries and food. Voters also
called for the parliament to have tax varying powers.
The new parliament is due to be elected by proportional representation in
April or May 1999. The first sitting is expected early in the next millennium. It is Wales turn to vote for a separate assembly on September 18.
