DAVID Lidington has been appointed shadow minister for agriculture and fisheries after Ann Winterton was sacked for telling a racist joke at a rugby club dinner.
Mr Lidington, MP for Aylesbury since 1992, takes up the post with immediate effect, having served in the shadow Treasury team since September 2001.
Married with four sons, he was Parliamentary Private Secretary to former Tory leader William Hague for two years from 1997 before being appointed shadow home affairs spokesman in June 1999. *
