New-tech system gives on-the-spot solutions

JOHN Deere has now introduced a computer-based diagnostic system helping the companys dealers identify problems and providing on-the-spot solutions.

Service Adviser, which provides technical information for all John Deere products, comes as three DVDs which contain the equivalent of over 400 service manuals.

On newer tractors, combine harvesters and self-propelled forage harvesters equipped with diagnostic capabilities, the system is fully interactive.

Using a laptop computer and a dial-up facility to connect to John Deeres dealer technical assistance centre (DTAC), solution database allows the information held to be updated as required. E-mail and internet services are also available.

A Service Advisor diagnostic port on the newer products provides access and connection to the machines operating systems and allows the computer to receive diagnostic and performance information. Service technicians can also use this port to programme or calibrate the machine if required.

Usually the computer acts on information received from the machine and automatically offers recommended service procedures and solutions to potential or actual problems.

If a problem cannot be solved it is possible to connect into the sensors on the machine and monitor information while the machine is running. This information can then be transmitted directly to John Deere engineers to interpret and find a solution. &#42
