New test to detect pre-symptom BSE
By FWi staff
FRANCE has discovered a new BSE test which offers the prospect of screening apparently healthy animals, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The newspaper says the test, which could also be used on humans, would give the opportunity to obtain accurate estimates of the scale of epidemics.
The French team, which is investigating the sensitivity of a biochemical test to screen slaughtered cattle, reports initial findings in the journal Nature.
It concludes that the test which can detect the disease before symptoms occur is the best available.
