NFU Mutual to support unions
NFU Mutual to support unions
THE NFU Mutual has announced it is increasing its annual contribution to the UKs national farmers unions to support them through the farm crisis.
The insurance company has pledged that in 2000 and 2001 it will give an extra £500,000 which will be divided between the NFU of England and Wales, the Scottish NFU and the Ulster Farmers Union.
The money comes on top of its regular £3m a year donation and an estimated £30m it pays each year in commission to NFU secretaries who use it to pay for staff and the running costs of local NFU offices.
Ben Gill NFU president said: "The NFUs relationship with the NFU Mutual was established over 80 years ago and during that period the Mutual has been steadfast.
"I particularly appreciate this extra help during such a tough time for the industry." *
