NFU set for changes
NFU set for changes
MAJOR changes to the future of the NFU, including a revision of its constitution and a new logo, were unveiled at this weeks council meeting in London.
Delegates agreed that the draft constitution should be discussed at grass roots level after NFU director-general, Richard Macdonald, told them that the current rules were a shambles.
The unions new logo for the next century has removed the farming emphasis. Both the tractor and the words "representing farmers and growers" have been removed, leaving the yellow NFU letters standing on a green background.
And a consultation document, Growing on Success: Tomorrows NFU calls for a greater development of charged-for services. Mr Macdonald wants to see an increase in the NFU Countryside membership to 70,000 by 2000 and an NFU Professional target of 11,000 by the same time.
