NFUdenounces hill decision

NFU president Sir David Naish has denounced the governments decision to freeze next years hill payments at 1996 levels, and its refusal to repeat the £60m suckler cow top-up.

After meeting farm minister Jack Cunningham late last week, Sir David said the decision would be a bitter disappointment to hill farmers and their families. "I think the governments position is wrong," he said, adding that the unions hill campaign would go on. "The NFU will not relent in its efforts to ensure that MPs and the British public are aware of the growing difficulties facing hill farmers," he said.
