Oats look good in Northants

OATS were started at Ashby St Ledgers Farms near Daventry in Northamptonshire.

Joe Scott, arable manager and talking from the combine, “The oats look good. They are yielding between 3-3.5t/acre (7.4-8.6t/ha). The bushel weight is about 50-51kg/hl, which is ok for milling.” They have combined 130acres

Feed barley was an average crop. Heligan measured 6.8t/ha (2.75t/acre) and Jewel 8t/ha (3.25t/acre). “Were not over the moon about these, as the autumn took its toll.” The clay loam soil has been saturated throughout the year.

Apex oilseed rape yielded an average 2.9t/ha (1.2t/acre) which is about average for the farm. He says they should be combining wheat in a week, depending on the weather.
