Oilseed rape price falls 7.50/tonne

OILSEED rape prices have fallen sharply, losing as much as £7.50/tonne on last weeks value.

UK ex-farm oilseed rape is currently trading at about £150/tonne, depending on region.

The UK market is suffering from the knock-on effects of a fall in French Matif rapeseed futures, say traders.

Poor crush margins and a fears of oversupply in the European Union triggered a DM28 (£10.24) slide on the Matif last week.

Economists at the London-based Home-Grown Cereals Authority say the global financial crisis has narrowed EU export prospects and reduced the chance of an immediate price recovery.
