Opinion over ATV roll bars divided

THE great ATV Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) debate continues with the British All Terrain Vehicle Association now voicing an opinion.

The ATV industry, it says, takes the view that the general case for ROPS fitment to the traditional ATV is far from proven.

"Research modelled on the incident data provided by the Health and Safety Executive clearly indicates that the proposed Health and Safety Laboratory system and other ROPS increase the incidence of injury and the risk of accidents overall to unacceptable levels."

Despite this view, BATVA says it still welcomes any investigations which could shed new light on the subject.

The association also points out it considers user training and protective headgear to be the most effective preventive measure that can be taken.
