Optimism at Kelso show

THINGS are looking up for Scottish farming, judging by The Scotsmans report on the Border Unions Agriculture Societys show at Springwood Park in Kelso.

It reports that “talk around the rings” of better yields from winter barley and slightly improved prices. There was also optimism about the cattle trade – that prices for suckled calves will be better this autumn.

However, the newspaper also reports on “huge worries” over the depressed state of the sheep sector.
