Organic babyfood sector grows by 50% a year

THE organic babyfood business is one of the fastest-growing UK organic sectors, up by almost 50% a year and now worth nearly 6% of the total UK babyfood market

The total UK babyfood market was valued at £145m in 1996, with organic babyfood sales making up about £8m of the total market.

One in every 20 babyfood jars bought is organic and, in chemist chain Boots and Waitrose supermarkets, the ratio is one in every five.

HIPP UK organic babyfood claims to have increased market share by 140% over the past year and have around 2% of the total wet babyfood market. The brand has 34 lines.

Baby Organix – market leader in the UK organic babyfood sector – has 5.6% of the total babyfood market and 56.6% of the organic, experiencing 42% growth a year and offering 44 lines.
