Organic fry-up on the menu

AN ORGANIC fry-up made from local fare is on the menu in East Anglia in an event to celebrate Farmhouse Breakfast Week.

Local produce promoter East Anglia Food Link is rustling up traditional bacon and eggs at Highfield Farm, Great Ryburgh on Monday (22 January).

Co-ordinator Clive Peckham said: “What better way to start the day than having a delicious and heartening organic breakfast using fresh, locally-sourced produce?”

To promote Farmhouse Breakfast Week, which runs 22-28 January, the National Farmers Union commissioned research on breakfast habits.

It revealed that 70% of those surveyed had not been treated to breakfast in bed in the past year.

Meanwhile, NFU tasty farmer Robert Clapp, from Somerset, will be serving breakfast to passengers on the Golden Hind Paddington service from Plymouth.

And throughout the week, cookery demonstrations and events will be taking place around the country.

The event is organised by the Home Grown Cereals Authority with the Meat and Livestock Commission, Food from Britain and the British Egg Information Service.

Further support has been given by the Womens Farming Union, the Farm Holiday Bureau and Ladies in Pigs.
