Organic lick boosts stock minerals
ORGANIC producers have a new weapon in the fight against mineral deficiencies in cattle and sheep with a Hi-Mag formulation feed block, manufactured by Dallas Keith.
The lick, part of the Bio Feed Block range, is said to contain 10% magnesium to help prevent hypomagnesaemia in lactating cows. It can also help prevent milk fever in dry cows and the lick contains good levels of phosphorus.
Although intended for feeding in the autumn and spring, blocks can be fed all year round. They are said to contain natural proteins from cereals, including full fat, non-GM soya, wheat protein, trace elements and molasses. They are supplied in edible cardboard containers.
Designed to supplement standard forage rations on an ad-lib basis, one 20kg block is recommended for 10 cattle or 20 sheep, which will last for four and 40 days respectively. Blocks are available in 20, 50, 100 and 500kg sizes and cost £9.25/20kg block or £23/50kg block (01993-773061, fax 01993-771338).
