Organic losses

A THIRD of organic farmers are losing money because of falling returns from the market place, according to new research by the NFU.

A survey of 2000 producers found while the amount of land farmed organically continues to increase, the number of farmers making a loss has almost doubled in the last five years.

The NFU said the report, timed just before the governments Organic Action Plan is published on Monday (July 29), showed that organic production in Britain was at risk. &#42

organic production having been hailed by some as the potential saviour of British agriculture, it said.
