Original herd is dispersed

DAIRY farmers R and C Johnson, from Penrith, Cumbria, mopped up 23 lots at the dispersal of the Roughlyn Holstein herd of 360 milkers owned by Alec Pickering, Doddleston, Chester.

Messrs Johnson paid most of the leading prices giving the overall top of 1600gns for a fresh second calver by Celsius and out of a twice 11,000kg United Nick cow. Their other purchases included a calved heifer by Moet Martha Franchise at 1100gns.

The Roughlyn herd, which has an average of just under 9000kg, was founded on some of the original Holstein imports purchased in 1946.

Averages: 322 head £664 (Wright Manley). &#42
