Orkneys area aid
GROWERS in the Orkneys and other parts of Scotland who have not been able to get spring crops in due to wet weather can still claim arable area aid, without penalty, up to May 31.
The Scottish Office has agreed that these circumstances count as force majeure, but anyone affected must write straight away to local government offices, stating that they still intend to plant.
If they are unable to plant by the end of May, they will then have to reduce their claims by the amount of land not planted.
