OILSEED rape crops are flowering earlier than ever, with some already in full flower and now at risk of severe frost damage.
Earlier this week flowering Apex on Richard Cottles Church Farm, Steeple Ashton, Wilts, was starting to set pods. "All our rape is forward, but this is the most forward of the lot."
Every region has some flowering crops, but none so advanced as Mr Cottles, says United Oilseeds. "Drilled on Aug 21, it caught bank holiday rains and has kept growing ever since," comments senior agronomist Richard Elsdon. *
