OILSEED rape area payments will be paid in full for 1999/2000 crops, forecasts Banks Agriculture.

A fall in European oilseeds plantings is expected this coming autumn due to current low prices, so the European Maximum Guaranteed Area will not be exceeded. That means UK growers should receive the full payment, regardless of whether the MGA in the UK is exceeded.

If that is the case, gross margins on a 3.5t/ha (28cwt/acre) crop will recover from £434/ha (£176/acre) this season to £541/ha (£219/acre), even with rapeseed at £120/t, calculates oilseeds and pulses trader Graham Young.
