Over 2m cattle slaughtered in OTMS to March

BY the end of March, just under 2.2m cattle had been slaughtered in the over 30-month scheme.

In a parliamentary written answer, junior farm minister Jeff Rooker added that the carcasses of 128,000 of those animals had been directly incinerated. Most had been rendered to produce meat and bonemeal (MBM) and tallow.

"To date, some 325,000t of MBM has been produced as a consequence of the rendering of OTMS animals, of which some 314,000t is currently in store, the remainder having been incinerated," Mr Rooker said. &#42
