Pea crop provided difficulty

‘Pea crop provided difficulty’
THE pea crop has provided difficulty for Nick Huxtable, manager for Sir Richard Hyde Parkers farm at Long Melford in Suffolk.
One crop of Elan yielded 3.5t/ha (1.4t/acre), which is below average, but he says it was a good sample. “This was not too bad considering they were only drilled in May.”
The next field yielded about 2.5t/ha (1t/acre). “The first crop stood up well, but these ones were very close to the ground. We were doing damage to the combine and getting soil in the combine.”
They have since moved onto Consort, which yielded 10t/ha (4t/acre) on light land. They should finish wheat tomorrow. There are still 120ha (300 acres) of spring beans and 80ha (200 acres) of spring barley left to combine.
