Peach shortage could hit Germany hardest

ANY peach shortage is likely to be felt most in Germany. The country is a heavy importer and has a weak currency.

Britain is largely protected by the strength of Sterling, but Safeway has already had to increase prices to make up for an Italian shortfall.

Sainsburys confirmed it had increased the price of nectarines. The problem has been caused by a disastrous season for Mediterranean fruit growers affected by adverse weather conditions.
