Pearl performs perfectly

ROBERT SHEPHERD, manager of the Allenford Farms Partnership, near Fordingbridge in Hampshire has combined some good quality winter barley.

Sixty-one hectares (150 acres) have a weighbridge yield over 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), above the average for the chalk based farm.

The specific weight is 68kg/hl and nitrogen 1.55%, “It is perfect malting barley!” The crop was drilled by 14th September.

They are now facing a wait for the next crops to come fit. They should start Claire winter wheat at the end of the weekend and spring barley in another ten days.

He predicts spring barley will ready in two weeks.
