PEDIGREE enthusiasts bought the most sought after cattle paying up to 4600gns for a heifer from the Deslacs Midnight family at the Lancaster Holstein Dairy sale last week.

Top call came from the show judge Derek Calvert, Gisburn, Lancs, who had earlier awarded the championship to Alandrew Windstar Melda ET from A E Smith and Sons, Garstang, Lancs. The five weeks-calved heifer has the 17,586kg Deslacs Chief Melda Ex92 as grand dam.

Mr Calverts Manorhouse herd also added the Garstang-based Leach familys Leachfield Progress Corrie at 3000gns. She had stood reserve champion and is a Duncan Progress daughter from the famous White Cow family.

A strong consignment from the Mallabers Newroddige herd in Staffs produced a 4000gns call from Jeremy Taylor, Skipton, North Yorks, to add a Silky Cousteau daughter to his Smellows herd.

Averages 68 cows and calved heifers £1131 (Norton & Brooksbank, in conjunction with Lancaster Auction Mart). &#42
