Photos: French farmers show price fury with roadblocks and manure
Furious French farmers have brought parts of northern France to a halt over the past two days, in protest over falling prices for livestock and milk.
Farmers are continuing to use tractors and trailers to block access to the tourist hotspot Mont Saint-Michel, as well as blockading a ring road near the city of Caen.

One branch of the giant hypermarket Carrefour has had its shopping trolleys filled with manure, while in another incident, farmers dumped hundreds of trolleys in the street.Â
France’s president Francois Hollande has said he will unveil an emergency package of measures on Wednesday (22 July) to help France’s livestock and dairy sector.

The farmers are angry about the squeeze on farmgate prices by retailers and processors and what they see as lack of action by government to address their plight.

Mont Saint Michel is one of the most popular tourist destinations in France and tourists were forced to weave their way around muck heaps and tractors to access the World Heritage Site on Monday.

Hundreds of tractors and farm vehicles, including skips filled with manure, have also been used to block a ring road in Breteville-sur-Odon, near the city of Caen in lower Normandy.

Banks, supermarkets, abattoirs and distribution centres have also been targeted with producers dumping manure, old tyres and rubbish outside their doors and gates.
