Pig farmers win celebrity support

By FWi staff

PIG farmers protesting outside the House of Commons in a bid to win government help for their ailing industry have won celebrity backing.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, the 28-year-old socialite-cum-fashion model, will join the farmers for a photo shoot at Parliament Square on Thursday (23 March).

Ms Palmer-Tomkinson will launch a childrens letter-writing campaign and picture competition with Winnie, the pig accompanying the protestors.

Her support comes a week before Tony Blair hosts a farm summit with industry leaders in an attempt to find a solution to the farming crisis.

Pig producers will use the summit to demand an urgent package of aid to their sector which receives no form of direct government subsidies.
