Pig price collapse ‘not caused by imports’
THE collapse in the price of pigmeat cannot be blamed on cheap imports, according to official trade figures from HM Customs and the EU Intrastat office.
Available data from the Meat and Livestock Commission suggests that the commercial disaster facing producers may have its origins in weak consumer demand and a failure by major retailers to market pork effectively.
