‘Planning rules threaten countryside’

PLANNING rules giving county councils little say in where up to 3.8 million homes are built in the next 20 years have been branded “dictatorial” by critics.
These impose housebuilding on the countryside without giving flexibility, say the Conservatives and the Council for the Protection of Rural England group.
The Government announced the new regional guidance, known as PPG11, on Tuesday (17 October), reports The Daily Telegraph.
Councils will decide every five years how many homes need to be built. This can be approved or increased by the Government, according to inspection.
