Pneumonia antibiotic fed in short term

TREAT and control respiratory disease outbreaks in pigs to safeguard performance with the in-feed antibiotic Pultomil, says Elanco Animal Health.

The product is said to act against three of the primary respiratory pathogens, mycoplasma, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida.

Elanco recommends use at stressful times, such as weaning and after transport or when pigs show clinical disease symptoms, but unlike other pneumonia treatments it need only be given for short periods.

When given to young pigs for a 14-day treatment it costs from 30p a pig (01256-353131).
