Potato slugs cause trouble

EARLIER than usual planting and recent wet weather mean slugs could be particularly troublesome in potatoes this season, say technical specialists.

A recent survey of agronomists, advising on 18,000ha, found 82% considered controlling the pests is vital, according to metaldehyde pellet maker Lonza. All believed populations had increased in recent years.
