PPL plans to clone pigs

PPL Therapeutics intends to adapt the so-called Honolulu mouse-cloning technique to clone pigs.

PPL, which cloned Dolly the sheep, has reached agreement with ProBio America to license the technique which was announced earlier this week, reports the Financial Times.

It also announced it had produced its first lambs carrying a protein which could be used to treat heart and muscle damage. It said it planned to create a flock of genetically-modified sheep carrying a human gene with the EC SOD protein by using cloning techniques and natural inbreeding processes.
