Pre-em pea penalty

Pre-em pea penalty

UNRELIABLE pre-emergence herbicides cost combinable pea growers over £1m a year, with half the area so treated needing a follow-up post-emergence application, according to a BASF survey of 10% of the UKs 90,000ha (222,400 acre) crop.

The penalty figure assumes two-thirds of the area gets a pre-em spray and takes application costs into account. The firm sees its new product Impuls (bentazone + pendimethalin), with very early post-em approval, as the first to offer growers an effective alternative to pre-em treatment. &#42
