Quota prices crash to eight-year low

By FWi staff

LEASED quota values have fallen through the 3ppl barrier as news of Septembers poor milk production figures has spread.

Peter Weston Davies of the Farm Consultancy Group acquired low butterfat quota (3.65%) at auction for 2ppl, and 4% supplies for 2.5ppl through auction and private treaty.

“That was for reasonable volumes up to 200,000 litres,” he says. That marks a 1.5ppl drop on the week and means prices have fallen to an eight year low.

Jonathan Smith, of BK National Quota Exchange, reported 4.01% butterfat selling for 3ppl on the same day. Prices are under pressure, he said.

Permanent transfer values have dropped by 4p to 19ppl for 4% quota.
