Rain threatens wheat

COMBINING was brought to an abrupt end on Thursday due to rain, for Nick Harding, who farms at Tarrant Rushton near Blandford Forum in Dorset.

Thirty-three hectares (81 acres) of Soissons yielded about 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) which is average for the farm.

“Im not worried about the rain at the moment. But weve got 65 acres of Durum wheat which doesnt need any more rain. We shall go for that first.”

Winter barley was finished over a week ago and yielded above average. 12ha (30 acres) of Pearl yielded 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) and Vanessa yielded 9.4t/ha (3.8t/acre).

The farm is based on chalk.
