Read it and save money

THEnew RB209 Fertiliser Recommendation book should be on every growers Christmas list, says ADAS senior consultant, Andy Wells.

East Yorks-based AICC consultants Simon and Dale Senior reckon that P and K changes for sugar beet will bring big savings, while Lincs-based independent agronomist Ruth East believes recognition of varietal differences in potatoes is a key step forward in the latest edition.

Range of rates

But the wide range of nitrogen rates given for potatoes could cause problems, says QV Foods Brian Clutterbuck.

"I am concerned the supermarkets and some pressure groups will latch on to the lowest figure. The book must not be taken as gospel but seen as a framework to work from."
