Reduce emissions and noise with the BioTRED system
A NEW development from Goodyear employs starch produced from maize to reduce tyre rolling resistance, noise levels, lower CO2 emissions and reduce energy consumption in the production process.
Now used in the production of the companys GT3 car tyres, the BioTRED system uses starch produced in a similar process used by the food industry. The starch is treated to obtain micro droplets which then undergo a treatment which transforms them into a biopolymeric filler – its physical properties differ substantially from those of traditional fillers.
This product partially replaces the carbon black and silica used to produce the rubber compounds.
• A filler is a solid particle used as an additive for polymers to reinforce the compound and optimise their properties. It can be a mineral, metal powder, an organic by-product or an inorganic synthetic compound depending on the required applications. *
