Regulations delay show

THE Lincoln Red Cattle Societys annual show and sale has been rescheduled to Apr 16 because of foot-and-mouth regulations.

The show and sale normally takes place on the first Thursday in March at the Lincolnshire Showground, but delays by DEFRA in setting up new rules for stock at showgrounds forced the postponement of the event and a change of venue to Louth Market.

Breed society secretary Lorna Newboult has been working with official auctioneers Masons of Louth to organise the sale since early January. "We got almost all of the arrangements at the showground agreed in principle, but without the new rules we could not apply for a license and time was getting tight for our members and others needing to buy new stock," she says.

When Louth Market announced it was going to re-open on Apr 4, the society decided to change venue, although it hopes to return to the Lincolnshire Showground next year.

Entries include HM Prison Lindholmes herd dispersal of 45 Lincoln Red cattle.
