Regulin implants boost conception
Regulin implants boost conception
EXCELLENT conception rates using Regulin implants in early lambing ewes means Nick Gilder is likely to use it again.
He normally uses PMSG and sponges, but has often found it difficult to get ewes that didnt hold to the tup back into lamb. Despite this not being a problem – he tested both PMSG and sponges and Regulin – this year, Mr Gilder says the good conception rates using Regulin are enough to convince him to change.
However, he also puts good conception rates down to swapping back to Mule ewes. "We always used to run Suffolk crosses, but found they became too big and awkward."
He has also found using Regulin means he doesnt have to find extra tups to go with his Charollais and Suffolk rams. "I used to borrow some from my brother, but he doesnt lamb at the same time, so his tups are not well fed and ready to use."
In addition, flockmasters are often reluctant to lend out stock rams, because of disease risk.
they could catch scab or introduce abortion to their own flocks, he said.
