Renewed effort to save prison farm
EFFORTS to save a prison and its farm are to be stepped up.
North Sea Camp on the Lincs coast, including a large farm which supplies food to many UK prisons, is under threat of closure.
Staff are now producing a video about the work of the prison and farm, which is worked by inmates, to show to Home Office minister Paul Boateng during a visit planned for Jan 14.
Part of the farm could be lost later this year as part of a coastline strategy of managed retreat.
The North Sea will be allowed to invade to create new wildlife habitat along a stretch which the Environment Agency regards as indefensible in the long term. *
