Revival of Melton Mowbray
AN ancient pig breed that produced the meat for the original Melton Mowbray pork pies has been revived with the birth of 16 piglets to two sows.
The black-and-rust-spotted piglets were born last month after the successful mating of a Tamworth boar, Jasper, with two Berkshire sows, on a farm in the Vale of Belvoir.
A litter from a third sow is due later this month.
