Rotary mower best for steep paddocks

MOWING undulating and steep paddocks with wide single deck toppers can result in an uneven and scalped finish, points out Major Equipment.

The solution says the company is to use a rotary trailed mower with three decks which float over ground contours using a three-point pivot system.

A new machine, the Groundsmajor TDR comes in 4.8m and 6m cutting widths and can be operated with one or both outer decks locked vertically.

With both decks raised, mowing widths are reduced to 2.4m and 3.6m respectively for each model.

Drive to the rotors is disengaged automatically when the outer decks are raised and has to be re-engaged manually when they are lowered.

For mowing smaller areas of ground, the rear deck can be detached and mounted on the three-point linkage.

Another new addition from Major Equipment is the 1200 TPL mounted pasture topper which is available in a 3.6m working width and designed to achieve 4ha/hr (10 acre/hr) workrates.

The mowers employ two swinging blades driven via a gearbox and shaft transmission. Price for the 1200 TPL topper is £4900. &#42
