MEMBERS of Witney YFC, Oxon, will be putting their shoulders to the plough next Saturday (Sept 27). A team of 12 members will haul a plough to turn over an acre of land at Burford, Oxon, during the Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins and Burford 50th anniversary ploughing match and country show.
The aim of the Plough Pull is to raise money for Sight Savers International, a charity which inoculates residents of central and west Africa again river blindness which is caused by a parasite.
• The Sedgemoor Group was the overall winner and recipient of the inter-club trophy at Somerset federations stock-judging final held at Home Farm, Ston Easton. The group comprises Bridgwater, Highbridge, Polden Hills, Quantock Vale and Taunton & Wellington YFCs.
Wedmore YFC won the Lindley trophy for stock-judging at Taunton Show. Polden Hills was runner-up and Culm Valley third.
Sarah Harding of Wrington YFC and Lloyd Wallis of Wedmore are the county tennis champions; Bridget King and Joe Hickling of Wessex Group are the mixed doubles champions.
Sparkford YFC won the senior rounders contest and Weston, Banwell & District YFC the under 18 section.
• Welsh Newton YFC won the NFU trophy for the overall winner at Herefordshire federations junior field day. Teme Valley YFC was second and Craswall YFC third.
