Roxy family is breeders top choice

BREEDERS battled it out for an Encore daughter from the great Roxy family to top the trade at 9000gns at the Painley Holstein sale at Beeston Castle last week.
This was despite several of the Painley Kimo family heifers going under the hammer and looking handy money. However, the days real temptress was the 14-month-old heifer Painley Encore Robin, out of Brigeen-C Integrity Robin and with the great Glenridge Citation Roxy as sixth dam.
She was one of several exciting heifers in the sale bred out of Canadian imports and is maternal sister to the successful show winning Painley Kennsignton Shawn 2nd (by Leduc).
Robin comes from eight successive generations of cows classified as Ex or VG, averaging 92 points and her dam gave almost 13,000kg with her second. She joins the Twilight herd of Fred Williams in south Wales.
Painley herd owners John and Valerie Barlow from Nantwich, Cheshire, were offering a major slice of their youngstock. Herd manager David Hastings and his son David, renowned for their remarkable achievements at Painley, presented 25 of the entry out of 12,000kg-plus dams.
Auctioneer Clive Norbury, sharing home-ground with joint auctioneers Chris Norton and Tom Brooksbank, booked the highest priced Kimo at 5100gns with a bid from Cumbria farmers A and CH Watson, Cockermouth.
They selected Painley Leduc Kimo 62nd (PLI +£84 and PIN +£81) out of Painley Juro Kimo who gave 13,463kg as a heifer and had stood first at the Royal Show.
Even at 3700gns the Storm heifer Painley Storm Tina Red looked a bargain. Shes out of the imported Canadian cow Tinick Skychief Tina VG-89 who followed her heifer lactation of 11,000kg with yields of 15,700kg and a 16,100kg. Buyers were AR and ER Jones, Caernarfon.
Painley heifers looked good value for money. Swindon breeders RD Horton and Son took two of the highest priced heifers. They gave 3600gns for the yearling calf Painley Marshall Kimo (out of the 10,000gns Painley Franchise Kimo) who is full sister to Moet Nunwick and Moet Notable) and 3100gns for the nine-month-old Painley Dante Kimo, another daughter of Painley Juro Kimo.
Most expensive of the three Aaron heifers was the 13-month-old Painley Aaron Kimo out of the 17,000kg Painley Prelude Kimo 3rd RM Ex bought by John Jordan, Worcs at 3100gns.
Averages Painley heifers £1475 and eight young bulls £1102. Guest consignments: Newroddige – six heifers £1890; Bromstead – 14 heifers £780. (Wright Manley with Norton and Brooksbank). *
Top price and reserve supreme ticket winner , Sterling Lancer 2who made 4000gns to Major David Walter, Perth.
