RSABI ENJOYS CENTENARY SUCCESS
STILL with a few more months to run, the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institutions centenary year has been most successful in raising both funds and the profile of this charity.
The Centenary Fund has topped £100,000 and among the contributors was BBC broadcaster Arthur Anderson and his supporters who raised £18,000 by taking a sponsored 212-mile walk of the Southern Upland Way.
As well as raising money, the anniversary year has also raised the number of new beneficiary applications. Between April and November 97, 180 people applied for help, 95 more than the same period in the previous year.
Several more events are planned before the centenary year ends in April and among them is the Burns Jig to be held on Jan 31 at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, and a concert of traditional Scottish music in the Queens Hall, Edinburgh. All inquiries to RSABI (0131-333 1023).
