Safeway puts its faith in veg
FRESH fruit and vegetables will be given greater emphasis as Safeway tries to recover from a 29% drop in annual profits.
New chief executive Carlos Criado-Perez want more “market-style” displays to attract shoppers to the chains 489 stores, reports The Guardian.
He has also imposed a freeze on new stores and end marketing strategies such as loyalty cards.
London stores will be refitted by October and will include new fresh produce displays.
Safeways pre-tax profits fell from 334m to 236m.
