event at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh

THE decision by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) to hold a new farming event in the winter was taken in the light of foot-and-mouth, continuing low prices and an unprecedented feeling of uncertainty in farming. Its aim was to gather some of the best business and technical advice providers in the industry to advise farmers on the steps they can take to stay in business for the long term.

Thus AgriVision was born, a two-day event taking place at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh, on Dec 5 and 6.

The event will have three themes. One is knowing your market. The UKs leading retailers and processors will be on hand to identify consumer trends, help you plan for future markets and show how food chain collaboration can benefit farmers. You will also be able to discuss with the professionals how welfare, traceability and quality assurance will affect your business.

A second theme is providing essential management information so farmers can tailor their livestock and arable enterprises to meet current and future market demands. There will also be a chance to view the latest research and development information, including those from the Knowledge Transfer project, and talk to business advisors about the latest information technology and how it can help your business run more smoothly.

The third theme is business planning for the future. Some of your business assets may be ideal for non-farming enterprises and AgriVision aims to provide ideas and ways of exploring the opportunities available to profit from your resources. There will also be a wealth of business advice available at AgriVision.

A comprehensive programme of free seminars will run on both days. These are grouped under four main headings: My Business: My Future; How the World is Changing – Future Market Opportunities; Taming the Technology; and Practical Realities.

The importance of good business and technical advice has never been greater. AgriVision aims to provide just this in December.
