PRICES reached 2900gns when two of Scotlands most respected Holstein Friesian herds offered 74 animals at a special sale at Carlisle.
The entry comprised newly-calved and close-to-calving young cows and heifers. And it was Firth Tiger Cat Lee, soon to calve with her second by Startmore Rudolph, the led the trade for Firth herd owners John Jamieson and family, Dumfries.
Buyer was D M Steel, who runs the Clydesmuir herd at Biggar. He also gave 2100gns for Firth Rox Annie, a VG85 recently calved heifer with breeding tracing back to the great Hanoverhill TTA Roxie.
Stock from Robert Kirkwoods Dockenflat herd at Mouswald, Dumfries, peaked at 1800gns when W J Armour and Son, Moffat, secured Dockenflat Present 86th, a freshly calved heifer by Bond Haven Request.
AVERAGES: Firth – 17 cows £1388, 18 heifers £1309. Dockenflat – 19 cows £1200 and 20 heifers £1280. (Harrison and Hetherington.)n
