Scottish farm leader berates landowners

JIM WALKER, the president of the National Farmers Union of Scotland (NFUS), has delivered a broadside against the Scottish Landowners Federation (SLF).

Mr Walker says he has become frustrated by the federations apparent lack of urgency regarding the need for reform of landlord/tenant legislation.

The two organisations, which first committed to negotiations late last year, will not meet formally until mid-June at the earliest.

Mr Walkers attack comes weeks after the SLF said publicly that relations with the NFUS were proceeding very well.

The Herald suggests that the SLF is having some difficulty in deciding on the form of farm tenancies it can agree with the union.

The issue has been a point of dispute between the SLF and NFUS for many years.
