Seed businessman surrenders acres

A TENANT farmer who built up a successful birdseed business on his holding has surrendered a large parcel of arable land in return for possession of the buildings housing the enterprise.

The agreement between Philip Loakes, who started Manor Farm Granaries 40 years ago, and his landlord – a family trust – means 146 acres of ready-ploughed Grade 3 IACS-registered land at Brington, near Huntingdon, Cambs, is now available from agent Robinson & Hall for £2300/acre.

"This deal is good for everyone," said the firms David Jones. "The farmer can now expand his business and the landowner is able to realise the vacant possession of the land." &#42
