Seed treatment to enhance maize
BETTER maize establishment, increased crop vigour, improved plant stands and increased stress resistance are promised by micronutrient seed treatment Opticoat ZM, says Grainseed Maize, Coop de Paus UK agent.
Opticoat ZM contains manganese and zinc, and benefits are most likely to be seen in cooler, more marginal regions. Cold weather during germination can delay early root growth, reducing the plants ability to take up soil nutrients, but the use of Opticoat will reduce these concerns, it says.
The treatment is available with Nancis, Dartis, Botanis, Soltis, Sophy and Aral. Perceived cost is about £5/acre. (01379 871073)
